Two sisters from the Philippines who were left by their father and are now living in poverty in Louisiana are fighting to improve their lives.

Soledad has always been able to find solace in her stories. like her mother had always been able to. And in the five years since her mother and sister passed away and her father relocated Sol and her younger sister from the Philippines to Louisiana, Soledad has needed that getaway more than ever. Then he vanished, leaving Vea, Sol and Ming’s cruel stepmother, as their sole caretaker. Ming has been shielded by Sol all this time, but now Ming starts to think that their legendary, globe-trotting aunt, Auntie Jove, will actually come and save them.
